On this week’s market summary:

1️⃣Hong Kong stocks snapped a two-session winning streak, as traders awaited the release of China’s July economic data and weighed the strength of the global economy after US equities approached all-time highs. The Hang Seng Index fell less than 0.1 per cent, or 13.35 points, to 25,230.67 at the close. The gauge changed directions at least 10 times in intraday trading. 2️⃣Swire Pacific Ltd., the 204-year-old British trading firm based in Hong Kong, said its recovery is tied to growth in Asia’s financial hub and the Chinese mainland after months of political turmoil and the coronavirus pandemic tipped it into its first half-yearly loss since 2008. 3️⃣China will eventually gain a bigger share of total global exports regardless of the impact of the coronavirus on foreign demand and threats of decoupling from the US, according to the head of the country’s customs administrations.

4️⃣Visa Inc. sold bonds at a record low yield as it became the first consumer finance company to issue debt to fund environmentally friendly projects.

5️⃣At Peter Woo’s Wharf Real Estate Investment Co., retail rental income plunged by almost a third in the first half of the year, leading to a loss and a HK$7.4 billion ($955 million) hit to its portfolio. Revenue from Hong Kong property sales at Li Ka-shing’s CK Asset Holdings Ltd. slumped by more than 60%. The Kwoks’s Sun Hung Kai Properties Ltd. slashed rents for some tenants, while the biggest landlord in the Central district said its vacancy rate rose to 5% at the end of June from 2.9% in December.
